14 Sealed Source Safety Manual C. Specific Safety Practices Generally Licensed Material Training Sealed Source Safety training is required prior to working with generally licensed devices. This training is offered through Learn@ ISU P rincipal investigator (PI) and lab supervisors are required to take retraining annually. Annual retraining is not required for other authorized personnel if they are compliant with the procedures in this manual. Documented laboratory-specific training is required annually. Recommended training topics include • Manufacturer’s operating instructions. • Transfer and disposal requirements. • Laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) including operational requirements and emergency protocols. • Potential hazards. • ISU Sealed Source Safety Manual. Procurement All acquisitions of generally licensed materials must be pre- authorized by EH&S including materials funded through capital (new building, renovation, etc.) projects. • Initiate the process by contacting EH&S to obtain a log number (pre-approval). • The vendor must be instructed to ¤ ¤ Reference the log number on the packing slip accompanying the order. ¤ ¤ Address the shipment to EH&S.
