Labeling Chemical manufacturers, importers, and distributors are required to label, tag, or mark containers of hazardous chemicals they sell with specific information to identify the contents and the hazards of the product. Container labels must have, at a minimum: • product identifier (Proper chemical or common name of contents. Mixtures or solutions must include a list of constituents and their concentrations.) • signal word (warning or danger) • hazard statement(s) (fatal if swallowed, flammable liquid, corrosive, etc.) • pictogram(s) • precautionary statement(s) • name, address and telephone number of the manufacturer or other responsible party Purchasers of hazardous chemicals must verify that containers received are labeled, tagged or marked with this information before adding it to their inventory. The chemical owner should routinely check to ensure labels remain legible and in good condition during storage
