11 Fire Safety Guidelines Environmental Health and Safety Flammable and Combustible Liquid Definitions Class Flash Point Boiling Point Class IA flammable liquid Below 73 degree F (23 degree C) Below 100 degree F (37.8 degree C) Class IB flammable liquid Below 73 degree F (23 degree C) Greater than or equal to 100 degree F (37.8 degree C) Class IC flammable liquid At or above 73 degree F (23 degree C) Below 100 degree F (37.8 degree C) Class II combustible liquid Greater than or equal to 100 degree F (37.8 C) and below 140 degree F (60 degree C) Class IIA combustible liquid Greater than or equal to 140 degree F (60 C) and below 200 degree F (93.3 degree C) Class IIIA combustible liquid Equal to or greater than 200 degree F (93.3 degree C) All flammable and combustible liquids must be stored in approved, sealed containers. Approved containers include the original (factory) container or designated safety can. Whenever possible class I flammable liquids should be stored in approved flammable storage cabinets. Flash Point The lowest temperature at which a material can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air. Boiling Point The temperature at which a given material changes from liquid to gas.
