Surveillance of Safety
The Occupational Medicine Program provides
medical surveillance services for over

Iowa
State University employees with potential exposure
to job related hazards. In 2016,
1,063
hazard
inventories were completed by employees. Of these,
773
required job hazard evaluations. As part of
the Association for Assessment and Accreditation
of Laboratory Animal Care (AALAC) review,
1037
people were identified who met the requirements for
the Animal Activities Hazard.
A partner in the community
EH&S partners with the Ames Police and Ames
Fire departments to perform respirator fit tests.
In 2016, EH&S fitted
46
police officers and
53
firefighters. This long-standing partnership
not only benefits Iowa State University, it also
benefits the citizens of Ames.
